Fuel cells

Specialty focus areas:

Manufacturing of low-cost, highly durable solid oxide fuel cells; Diagnosing degradation modes in solid oxide fuel cells; New materials for solid oxide fuel cells

Projects are focused on the development of new manufacturing methods to reduce the cost and increase the durability of solid oxide fuel cells, the most efficient device known for converting fuel energy to electrical energy, with no air pollution. ... A combination of fuel cell performance modeling and experimental studies are being used to obtain a better understanding of the causes of performance degradation in solid oxide fuel cells in order to identify strategies for increasing their lifetime and durability. ... New materials are being studied to improve the performance and efficiency of solid oxide fuel cells through the design of new compositions and interfaces at the nanometre and micrometre scales.
